Oh, you know how it feels and looks I'm just going by a photo. I do notice some oxidation and I notice what looks like plating.

Did all 3 pictures load properly? I'm using my phone and for some reason only one picture shows

Most electroplating will cover up small detail like the hair and other microscopic detailed lines that I see. The detail almost looks like it was hand finished.

It's probably made of nickel plated, brass or bronze.

I remember reading that wash plating with nickle goes back before the mid 1800's. Silver Searcher, I believe what I call the back band is also called a saddle, which I had never heard until today. Confusion cleared up. I was picturing a riding saddle and was totally screwed up -- probably because I carried lead bullets in my mouth 65 years ago.

Thanks to all that had input on this. I have to admit that I had very little interest in stuff like this till I bought a detector but now it all fascinates me!
