I found this yesterday.. 11/2/2015 on my property in Southern Middle Tennessee.
Compared to a AA battery...

Might be part of an old foundation or stairs, square rod mounted into stone to hold a railing, ring, support, building tie down. Any more info on the site, mining area? Farm? Near water? Is the metal magnetic?
