I found this today at the Oklahoma homestead site I've been searching lately. Most of the stuff found here seams to be from the late 1800's/early 1900's. This thing looks like it was made to be attached to something--it has loops on each end. The eagle has spread wings with a shield across its body and in its feet are arrows and something else that I can't make out. Its head is turned to the left(my left) and it looks like its made from brass(?), and is about 1" across with the loops. Any help would be appreciated on this and thanks for looking! sandcreek4

I believe it's one of the plates that went on the front of the horses bridle? I believe... is it called a rosette?

Looks like a button from a sweetheart belt. Button companies made them with tabs or loops on the sides, instead of a shank in the middle, so that they could be linked togther to form a belt or chain. The pattern is that of a U.S. general service eagle button, in use from the mid 19th century until 1902.

But it is not lead backed. And it is not 2 inches in diameter or so.

I think it is an Eagle Button Eagle Button Protector.

My apologies... guess I missed the size of it.

Yep. union eagle.jpg

The A.J. Tower button may be from a walking slicker (raincoat). http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/walking-slicker-mfgd-aj-tower-coboston-2

Bottom left. Maybe you already IDed the bottom left. It looks like a very interesting "God helps those who help themselves button." I would like to see the backmark. It may be Indian. http://cgi.ebay.com.hk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260334254314&indexURL=
- 7/8” brass button that says God Helps Those Who Help Themselves.
The back says U. S. INDIAN DEPARTMENT. It has a beautiful picture of a farmer plowing his field, a house on a hill with smoke from the chimney and a setting sun. Albert’s Uniform Button Collectors Book lists the “God Helps …” type of button as a Rarity-4.

Bigcypresshunter--I cleaned a little more on the "God Helps" button and it does have U.S. Indian Department on the back--I just can't get a good picture of it because its a little rusty. Yeah!!!! This helps tie in some other stuff I found (at this same site) to the Indians! So, thanks for all the information!!!! My husbands step-dad is an Osage Indian and I can't wait to show this to him!! sandcreek4
