See if its magnetic... if so it may be a meteor of some sort.

This is assuming you found this WITH the detector.

Definitely not a meteor.

Meteroid - A solid body in space, smaller than an asteroid and at least as large as a dust speck.

Meteor - A bright streak of light that appears in the sky when a meteoroid is heated to incandescence by friction with the earth's atmosphere.

Meteorite - A stony or metallic mass of matter that has fallen to the earth's surface from outer space.

So it's not a meteor. I have no idea whether it's a meteorite.

Quite right. And it's not a meteorite. With the melt features I can see, in combination with the voids and vesicles, I would be sure that it's industrial slag or clinker.

Concur!

Specific Weight would be a great help in your quest...

Why do I feel like I just had a science class? Good information, and an awesome explanation and lesson on how we misuse words/terms.

Yeah. My Dad used to correct me on this. When it's in space, it's a meteoroid. When it's burning up in the atmosphere it's a meteor. If it makes it to the ground it's a meteorite.

I expected AARC to give me some crap for splitting hairs over his wording. :laughing7:
