Metal Detecting
Out metal detecting today at a house built around 1920. I found a couple of these little things and have no idea what they are. I think they are made of copper or something similar, they are not magnetic (so not Iron or steel, besides they aren't even rusty) and definitely not Aluminum or Lead. Any thoughts?

I think musical reeds out of organ, squeeze box or accordian.

That makes sense and looks about right. Thanks.

I’ve seen similar pieces like those on a table saw but the slot is not long enough for a table saw blade. I’m guessing maybe a band saw blade guide insert that would be on the top of the table with the blade coming through the slot. Just a guess.

I thought they were tops of a wood plane till I saw the size. I agree these are reed holders from pump organ

I Do believe Brass

Those who Said Pump Organ Reeds & Holders are Correct.

A reed organ is a small organ that produces the sound through reeds instead of pipes. Same way that for instance accordions and harmonicas does. The flow of air that is needed to produce the sound is often produced by foot-pumped bellows. The Reed Organ was very popular in smaller churches and in private homes in the early 19th century and several millions where made in the US alone between the 1850s and the 1920s. It’s a smaller organ, often with just one manual and few stops.

Ahh yes, the letters on them are C, D, and B. I looked up pictures of pump organ reeds and that looks exactly like what I have. I just wonder why pump organ reeds are scattered about the front yard of this rural ohio house...

The old pump organ gets moved out to the yard and is reduced over time to what you have found. you will probably find many more if you keep digging this area.

Maybe someone got tired of hearing that “old time rock & roll music” and pushed it into the yard. :laughing7:
