What is it

Wild guess is that it is a souvenir type non functional/decorative hunting horn from Europe. Missing it's mouthpiece ,if it had one.

A souvenir. Had one when I was kid, it came with a coon skin cap. I was Davy Crockett half pint size. I don't remember where I got it, the Rockies somewhere.

This is not and never was a powder horn. It is a hunters horn like was used to call in the foxhounds. Don't have any idea if it is real or repo but not a powder horn at any rate. notice there is no plug or a place where there was ever one. the metal trumpet like funnel is for sound.

What makes you think this is unusually large for a powder horn? powder horn.JPG

And I agree it was probably bought as a souvenir.

Definitely maybe a beer guslezzer from spring break.:laughing7: Joking but a nice find where ever you got it.

Even most of the English hunting horns had a mouthpiece. The sizes also varied on those as well. Regardless of the type of item it is, fact remains it is a contemporary made piece (the horn color tells its age or lack thereof) and the value is modest.
