I found this brass retainer near West Point Mississippi. Looks to me to be some sort of drum string tension bracket. If you have any ideas please let me know. IMG_1354.JPG


There is a threaded stud on the backside with nut still on it.
The word Calvary in barely ledgable under the crest which you can't see in this pic.
 

May we see the backside with the nut?

You typed Calvary. Did you mean Cavalry?

My hunting buddy found one like it that had " Union Forever" under the crest.

That cast brass eagle-&-nut device was also used as a civil war era drum-head tensioner. I've seen them on such drums in real-life, at civil war relic shows.
