Those would be made of brass or stainless, not aluminum.

If it is part of a thermostat it would be an old one. And this part has been flattened out. The gasket would have been a separate item that came in the box.

Probably misunderstood originally your question: The thermo would have set in flush with the casting. Then a single gasket between the block and thermo housing.

I agree it's off an auto part or engine .

I stand corrected sir. Yes brass is used within a thermostat and stainless. I was only referencing the outer metal framework which seats within the housing. And yes I bet a lot of those are stainless also.
