Those would be made of brass or stainless, not aluminum.Looks like part of a vehicle thermostat housing.
If it is part of a thermostat it would be an old one. And this part has been flattened out. The gasket would have been a separate item that came in the box.Would there have been gasket material on either side?
I get what you mean regarding the thermostat.
Maybe some were and I wouldn't say your wrong. But I changed out many of them long ago and I don't remember any thermostat having brass or stainless material. Those would be made of brass or stainless, not aluminum.

Probably misunderstood originally your question: The thermo would have set in flush with the casting. Then a single gasket between the block and thermo housing.Would there have been gasket material on either side?

If Aluminum , I''d put in with my 'Sheet Aluminum ' recycling bucket . Metal is $ .
Interesting....I've replace 100's of them over the last 55+years and never saw one that wasn't brass or stainless.Maybe some were and I wouldn't say your wrong. But I changed out many of them long ago and I don't remember any thermostat having brass or stainless material.
I stand corrected sir. Yes brass is used within a thermostat and stainless. I was only referencing the outer metal framework which seats within the housing. And yes I bet a lot of those are stainless also.Interesting....I've replace 100's of them over the last 55+years and never saw one that wasn't brass or stainless.
