You might try this site, they have some pretty strange items that they have identified.

Anyone else want to make an opinion? I would like to know what this was made for. No Markings. Not home made. Lense is thick red glass like many railroad lights. There has to be another one of these out there. Thanks

Good morning forum. I posted this a while back but not sure if it is solved. I would like to see another like this to put an identification on it. There are lots of good thoughts on it. I know it was manufactured. It has two sockets inside with plugs for the holes on each end for wiring. The red lenses are really thick light RR lights. There are some mounting holes on the back side. There is a clear lens for light. It looks like it serves for a double purpose. Warning light? But for what? The paint looks factory also. There is a lot of knowledge on this site. Thanks for the help.

If it were mine I might pull one of the lenses out to lo look for a name on the rim. Any kind of name or mark anywhere on the thing would be a good clue.

It has insulated electrical wire? What are they insulated with? Might be a clue to the date of the thing.

After many months and still have not identified, I had decided to take Duckshot's advice and removed the lense. On the inside it has Ropp Glass written and Pittsburgh Lamp. They made lenses for Railroad and molded technical glass for demanding applications. " selenium red " glass, or ruby glass. It looks like the clear lense goes up to shine white and not red. The lenses show red through the lenses. I still do not know exactly what is was made for. This heavy box looks manufactured, not tin, so I think there should be others around. Any help would be appreciated. Bill
