... I think that is part of a check valve from a water well. It seals up the cylinder so that you don’t loose your prime...
…Here is one from my sisters rock garden. I have more that I will track down…

I found it perfectly sphere 7” deep no rust marks at all and it is solid.
I know this sounds weird , and dont know much about it... but a while ago i hunted with a guy who told me he found a couple of round balls like that ...he was at an old homesite and come to find out ..the balls were made of platinum it had something to do with being used for a type of lightning rod..... i dont know much about the color of platinum ..but if that is platinum you are gonna be happy !

If it were platinum, it would weigh a LOT more than 175.8g!

Is that ball magnetic though? Truth's ball is not. There would be no particular reason for a check valve part only exposed to water at normal temperature to be made from non-magnetic austenitic stainless steel. Possible, yes, but an unnecessary expense.

It was suggested earlier that the ball could be non-magnetic because it's brass/bronze or whatever, but I don't see any yellowness, nor any verdigris to suggest it has a significant amount of copper.

I still lean toward a check valve for a house well, bronze or stainless of some alloy. Not saying absolutely but leaning that way.Still a nice find Truth.
It’s so strange that such a simple shape intrigues me this much LOL

Same here this was the biggest “Steelie”deal in the world. When you broke out this one people ran!!!
When ya gotta know ya gotta know.

I’ll just be a “dress stone” or a “gun stone”? They where used first as a round rock and was replaced by iron in the 17th century

Thats a cool find I love things like that research is fun unless ya never figure out what it is then it can be whatever you want it to be lol

.... I’m glad you posted this link, that Is what mine are...
Beats me what this is but it reminds me of a 14 year old mechanic apprentist who was handed a square piece of metal to turn into a perfect sphere. He had 1 year to finish it.
