Looks like a fossil to me in a piece of dark & grainy looking river washed sedimentary sandstone. The real deal I would say as far as fossils go. Nice find.

That's so awesome! I only picked it up by chance didn't even see the shell at first. How old do you think it could be?

that is a big question and we can't answer it...too many variables not enough context...but suffice it to say, tens of millions of years old.

Agree! Fossil bivalve shell in matrix. Nice Find! You should be able to find more in the immediate area.
