While sluicing for gold we hit a patch of what looked like black sand. We panned it and then used a magnet to pull out the magnetite. What was left was about 2 pounds of a non-magnetic dark, dark grey barely shiney substance. This is in the Cripple Creek region in Colorado and we thought it was some form of telluride. We hit it with a magnifying glass in the sun. An old timer told us it should melt. It didn't. We heated some with a propane torch and it got red hot and started melting together somewhat. We can't figure out what it is or how to test it to determine it. Very consistent color, shape and size throughout the whole 2 pounds. Would probably get caught in 20 mesh screen. I need some help.
