I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to post a pic of their stick they use while out hunting for artifacts. I was thinking about making one for myself and would like to get some ideas. You could post yours and tell as to why you prefer it while hunting. As to what good uses it has. And if you dont use a stick then what do you use? I thought it would be interesting to see. Thanks, rock

Good Idea RRat. I have a BL in town and will check on that. If nothing else I might just get it for the handle and modify the end.

I use a stone scoop that was made by Estwing (the hammer and hatchet making company). The scoops are 36" and have a clam shell scoop on the ground end with holes in the scoop for sand and water to escape. I pick up a lot of rocks and "stuff" and flip a lot of things over. These things work great. The folks in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan use them to pull agates out of Lake Superior which gets kind of cold at times.
I never pick up an arrowhead with it though as I always photo before I recover by hand.

I'm just glad he didn't show the one in the first photo.

I have tried many sticks.most of my hunting involves shoreline and streambanks. So any stick is a good stick. The best sticks are found on the top of beaverhuts. There always seems to be a nice straight perfect one on top. What I usually use is a cross-country ski with the round thing cut off the point end. They are made of bamboo or aluminum. Perfect size perfect weight strong and the best part is I got one out of the garbage and one for two bucks at a garage sale.
