I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to post a pic of their stick they use while out hunting for artifacts. I was thinking about making one for myself and would like to get some ideas. You could post yours and tell as to why you prefer it while hunting. As to what good uses it has. And if you dont use a stick then what do you use? I thought it would be interesting to see. Thanks, rock

Good post Rock. I went creek walking a few days ago, about a 5 mile journey....about halfway into the walk, I grabbed a stick off the bank....my back and legs were burning. I was thinking the same thing.....

Nothing fancy here. Just a beaver stick picked up out of a creek. I pick them up whenever I find one that fits.

Here are some of mine. I keep them in my truck and boat at all times.
From bottom to top
1.The mojo really nice stick "Larson made". I will use is on plowed fields for easy flipping.
2.Short ski pole. Had this one 20 years. It has bopped and flipped many a rattler and copperhead saved me a thousand times from some really bad falls. I have turned around and drove back many miles just to retrieve this one pole. I hit the woods or mtns it is with me. It has a distinct sound when tapped on flint.
3. Swiss hiking stick with metal tip. I am really liking this flippin stick as you can adjust the length and is very light. I bought several while on sale. Great stick.
4. The two upper ones are for guest !!:laughing7:

My stick is one of Larson's as well. Just like yours, but a lighter color wood. I think it's maple. It is pin striped like the edge of a guitar. Wander why?? Lol. I hope Joe (Twitch) tunes in on this one. Lol! He uses a branch off of a sweet gum tree. Literally, it is near as round as a base ball! He is a right big dude. I have seen him pretty well cut trails with his stick. Lol!

Me too. I'll find a nice beaver or muskrat stick and use it for until it wears it's self out or breaks. Not easy to do, but it happens. Probably good for ~2 years per stick. Stays in the back of my truck at all times, just in case.

All I use, and all I ever have used in 47 years of hunting, is an old broom handle with a nail in the end of it. Nothing fancy or elaborate, but it has help me find over 12,000 artifacts.

Here is my walking stick and how to make it..hands down the best walking stick a fella could have...I use this stick for many things other than rock hunting...the original ingenuity behind it comes from my can hunting days when i picked them up off the road...(cause I aint workin for nobody).....I guess the pictures are self explanatory... but get you a hard rake cut as shown straighten it out and grind some points onto it. Can also be used as a weapon, trap down a snake, etc...

I climb a lot and sometimes you are over water and do not wish to get wet so I use mine for balance as well.It needs to have some strength to it. I have found the only thing it will not stop are yellow jackets! haha

Mine is in the car but I've posted it before. Wooden walking stick with a plastic slotted ladle inserted in the end to scoop deep water points in the winter. Also for balance because those algae covered rocks get slick.

I have seen quite a few of the older fellas use the nail in the tip technique. Must be something to that. All of those guys have nice collections.

Joe... I have hunted with you. That isn't a stick, it's a log. Lol! You paddled a boat with it!! Hey, what ever works. Keep on keepin on bro!

Those are some good tips and Sohio I knew if I left the door open you would walk in. LOL. I have a spot I go to sometimes that is slippery and you cant quite reach what you want without slipping in the mud. I was looking for something to reach but not fall. I was thinking about one of those reach tools which I got but it just doesnt pick rock up very well. And I was thinking what reaper said already but it wouldnt help in that spot. And I do know where there is a beaver dam at. All great ideas!
