Found 3 of these old buttons in the same area we found some old coppers dating from 1720 to 1738. I'm real curious as to what the cross or x means on the button. Any colonial button experts on this board? I don't have a pic of just the button yet so the copper coin is also included .

I was thinking a War of 1812 button with cross rifles.

I thought of that too, but the overall shapes are just straight lines with the circle around it.

To me it looks like a late 18th century civilian button. Crude decorative pewter or lead-alloy type.
