What Do You Use To Look At Your Coins?

The eye piece of a pair of binoculars works great for me. I have several loupes also but when I REALLY want to look at a coins fine detail I use the eye piece.

I have several of these taken from broken, old worn out binoculars. They really do work great. Besides what else are you going to do with your broken binoculars.

I like a 10X loup But I use a 5X as well.
If I want to look at MMs and possible doubling I use a 15X

The rest of the time I use a microscope.

pretty much the same here- 10X loop and when hunting varieties a microscope (10X 15X and I never use the last one... 20X maybe?)

I have rigged a digital camera into the mix and can view the picture from the microscope on my computer screen via USB cable. when I find something I want to keep I photograph it and save it to a disk. At 50X the mintmark on a dime is as big as your fist.
The only problem is, after I have two or three shots saved the thing has used up a huge chunk of RAM.
Requiring a restart.

Oh well .... the things we do for a hobby we love, right.

Wow! The binocular lenses and digital camera are both great ideas! I've always believed a person should try to learn something new everyday, and I learn several somethings everytime I log in. Thanks everyone for all your guidance.

I have a magnifying lamp from Heartland that costs $30 - they used to cost $150. I also have a microscope. For everyday use i carry two loops. One is 5x that i use for selling and another is 10x that i use for buying. If someone asks me do i have a glass I loan them the 5x. siegfried schlagrule

I pack a 10x lighted magnafying glass for gp use.

Siegfried, we need to come up with a secret handshake for TNet in case we run into each other at a coin show! I'm amazed at the wealth of knowledge I pick up on this forum.

If I'm out mding I carry one of those credit card magnifiers. If I'm at home I have one of those jewelers headband 10X magnifiers. I like it because it's hands free and you can really see what digging does to your cuticles at the same time. ;D
