My father found this in northern Indiana in the 1970s. It's been in the house for this long and we never really determined what it could be. It's smooth with numerous crack like lines throughout. Looks like a prehistoric egg or something. Or a Bezoar. It weighs 10 pounds. Symmetrical but not round really. It's kinda pancaked a bit. Strange for sure. Any thoughts? Thanks. Jgas.

It looks like some petrified dinosaur eggs I googled. The ones they sliced and polished were nice.

I have no idea, but I just googled petrified dinosaur eggs and looked at the pictures on Google, yours looks very similar. That's kinda exciting....

It does look like a Dino egg. Maybe something put a little pressure on it, such as a mud flow, before it became covered over and petrified? Maybe you could take it to a local rock collectors club to see what they have to say about it. ?

I've taken it the Phd in Geology at Notre Dame. His first suggestion was not an egg. Since they are no where near here. If it were found in the west like Montana then maybe. He believes it is from the glacial drift from northern Canada. 20 to 40 million years old and is possibly from a lava flow which when cooled the cracks were formed. Then as the glaciers retreated and huge raging rapid rivers were here this tumbled like a stone or glass in an ocean for millions of years. Crazy to believe but this was his initial assessment. He has it now and will research it further with electron microscopes and other analysis. So the jury is still out. I'm kinda hoping on an egg too. Or a non magnetic meteor. I will keep everyone posted. Jgas
