Life experience.
Where do the thoughts come from that you think?
Interesting posts. Someone once said perception is reality. Why do two people see the same event or read the same book and come away with polar opposite conclusions? Has to be nurture and past experience. I would dearly love to know what is going through the mind of newborns on up to when they form sounds to express their self. What thoughts would they have?
The circumstances of childhood appears something almost unescapable. I don't mean in terms of wealth-poor can become well off. But it seems to me one is marked subconsciously for life by their childhood.
I also do not mean a person cannot change either.
I'm thinking of intangible things.
What do you huys think?
A person's emotions to large extent rely on what a person believes.
People are responsible for choosing their beliefs.
Part of the way we are created is that we have the ability to affect the future. As a matter of fact it is impossible to escape affecting the future. So long as one lives they always have some kind of effect in the material world.
Just remember that you cannot change what happened after the past action of cause takes effect. We are all on a one way street through time, all ability to effect change takes place in the present. Choose your beliefs wisely, because you cannot change the past but you will affect the future.
I offer this for your consideration;People are responsible for choosing their beliefs.
.
I offer this for your consideration;
I am not a superstitious person, being a student of history and philosophy, I know where many superstitious beliefs originate.
with that said, I purchased a new house once with an address number 13, no big deal, right?
I lived there less than one year and experienced the worst run of bad luck you can imagine.
I still am not superstitious and am not afraid of the number 13, however, my subconscious obviously is, so I now avoid that number as much as is reasonably possible.
it may be true that we make our own reality, but do not underestimate the preconditioning you received as a youngster, before you were aware of things.
I gotta disagree with this "we make our own reality" stuff. It is demonstrably false. If you perceive an apple in a tree, nothing you choose to beleive can make that apple into some other kind of reality. No matter how hard wants to beleive that an apple is not an apple , but it is a cat, or an apple is a fire truck, it simply does not jive with reality.
Philosophers, along with ordinary people have debated "what's real" for thousands of years. The theory if knowledge, existence, all that stuff. In ordinary conversions I have watched peoples minds do this switcheroo thing between the intellect and their emotions. It's like a split personality. The two sides don't seem to know the other side exists.
It's very obvious in the area of politics. I DIDN'T SAT THAT!!
Few intelligent decisions can be made while in an emotional state but yet they are. Some ways too ID this state is when people preface their statements with "I feel" rather than "I think" It's not this simple and borders on Pop psychology if just used by itself but I wanted to point out these opposed mental states. Politics can be all emotion like a new girlfriend and a thinker won't make sense of it.
So here's a test. Next time a volatile subject comes up in conversation, do you feel or think? If your anxious, breathing a bit faster, maybe a bit flushed, chances your stuck in an emotional state. A person can't think clearly in this state. Usually just observing your head's thoughts will move someone into a thinking state. Emotions are for girlfriends not conversations.
