When I metal detect, I release my hounds to help me dig and am a faithful Fisher man for the past few years. I scream, "RELEASE THE HOUNDS", laugh like a madman, then look intensely for treasure in my two acres of land in suburban PA.

I posted Fisher (1236-2X), but I also use a BH Landstar when I want to run notch disc. No grips on either. The Fisher is my #1 choice and built like a tank. HH Cal

Which detector

Homemade PI. It detects 1 oz gold coin at 3 feet.

Marc in VA, Marc, I own a Garrett MXII for 12 years and recently a Minelab XS. The Minelab is still teaching me in a relic condition. it works great in wet sand at the beach, but no real finds in recent construction sites here in Jacksonville, FL

We have 4 detectors in the house, bounty hunter (sons detector) whites mxt (husbands detector) I personally use garrett. I have a garrett 550 and a 1250. 99% of my good finds were found with a garret, finds to include 1880's derringer pistol, military buttons, medals, coins etc. My oldest coin to date is a 1831 large cent. The deepest target dug with the garrett is been about 15 inches wich include a stirling coin purse and the pistol. Average target depth is about 6 to 8 inches. I find the garret to be paticulary good for me because I can make it lighter by removing the battery pac and attaching it to my belt. This helps me because I am only 5' 115 lbs (I am a light weight)

I live the site, thanks and happy hunting to all!!

Type of detector used

I use a Garrett GTAX 550 (bought it from Darla), and a Fisher CZ6. Both are great machines.

BRD (from Texas)

Whites Spectrum XLT and maybe the DFX once my 2 friends figure them out

I've hunted 40 years, started with a Fisher M-SCOPE and have owned and used other Fishers, Whites, Teknetics, Compasses, Micronta, homemade BFO rigs, VLF and TR machines I can't recall the brand names. They will all bring home the bacon if you do your part. All have weaknesses and strengths. I now hunt with a old Wilson Neauman Usika 4000 exclusively, it is great in trash and hot on gold rings, turning in rock solid stability. I rigged up 2 new handles for it, as the original factory handle was a tad short for me, it only punches down around 7 inches in wet soil, but I have used it successfully for CW relic hunting. I dig a lot of tabs, but I get the gold rings others discriminate out. It gets 100 hours on 2 9v akalines, and does me well. I'm looking for an old Daytona as a backup. Good luck & good hunting!

We have a Bounty Hunter fast Tracker and Tesoro Cutlass for coins and a Tesoro Diablo 2 and two Falcon MD10 S/P's for gold nugget and specimen quartz detecting. I have owned several Garrett's and Fisher machines in the past but being into Gold especially, I find Tesoro's hot on it and VERY stable and easy to operate. Even the little Cutlass( NOT MICROMAX) is hot enough on gold to use to find gold qaurtz pieces in the all metal mode. None of my Garretts or Fisher coin machines worked as well on gold as this little unit. We have found quite a few silver rings and old coins but NO gold rings YET. The best ring was a WWII U.S. Marines service ring with no id. number engraved on it unfortunately. We'd have liked to have returned it to the owner or his family. We have found many ounces of hardrock gold with our gold units. Gold detecting is my favorite past time for sure.
