Found both items today, are is known for logging/mining
The ring I am assuming horses but the old nail things are odd?
Sorry about the poor photos (11 month old felt like the world was going to end unless she climbed up my leg to see what I was doing) let me know if you want different angles or measurements.

that is an odd thing. Is that a square nail in it? (They still use square nails on horse shoes.) It must have been nailed into wood. What does the end look like?

I don't know what you have, but it's been hand forged. Looking at the head of the nail and the point on it, I'd argue that was hand made, and the
close up of the hole shows it was punched rather than drilled. Why ???

Looks like it was once attached to a log judging by the shape of it, if the left side was bent back around to mirror the right side. Maybe for rigging on a log raft?

I thought wagon and log something also? Maybe just a custom chunk of steel to make someone's life easier. Thanks for all the suggestions
