I found two hand tools in a farm field that is now a park. The old homestead (foundation only) is up a hill and in the woods about 100 yards away. I believe they came from there at one point. The links to the photos are below. I can't ever get them to load normally.

First Item: I think it is something a brick-layer would use to create the gap of mortar between two bricks (hence the raised line of steel), but I'm not sure, that's all I could think of? It has a wood handle. On the top it is stamped, "A.C. STEARNS & CO - SYRACUSE, NEW YORK".

Second Item: Some type of pump with a wood handle. It has a piston inside attached to the rod that went down through a spray-paint type can. Could it be an old grease gun? Or maybe one of those things to spray barn animals down with the anti-fly spray? This item is pretty much trashed, so identifying it might be impossible.

Here are the links to the photos:

I kept the little trowel-like thing, but threw away the pump thing because it was so brittle and trashed.

Thanks

It looks to me like a Concrete creasing trowl. It's used for adding creases (seams)to concrete so if the slab cracks it will crack along the seam.

Granted thats just my 2 cents

"Concrete creasing trowl", yup, not sure that is the 'technical' name or not, but I have one made of aluminum. It makes the 'crack' line in the sidewalk.

1st Item Is A Facing Trowl, To Put A Smooth Seam In The Mortar Between The Bricks On The Outside Of A Brick Wall. #2 Looks Like The Remains Of An Old Grease Gun. trk5capt...

Thanks everyone, you've confirmed what I thought it might be. Now I can fix my chimney too!

Item 1 is a concrete groover all the way! The second item I suspect began it's life as a hand powered sprayer. They were used prior to the invention of spray cans. Flit was a big name and if I remember correctly they were orange in color with black printing. The tank section had a removable cap. You mixed up whatever insecticide that you wanted to spray and put it in the tank. Sliding the handle back and forth provided the air necessary to atomize and spray the liquid. Prior to the ban on DDT we used one to combat flies on the farm. I still see them at times at flea markets. Two Dogs
