i do think they all be thieves Jeff ......lol
never got a super deal at a pawn shop, those are reserved for the select few who will answer soon ,,:)

I have a hard tim believing this pawn dealer honestly believed this was an ok deal... Yeah here's 65 grand in gold and jewelry and ok you give me 6 grand and we will just call it even.. Come on seriously.. Buyer beware that goes for pawn brokers too..

Years ago, before I got my diamond tester, I would infrequently use the Russian pawn shop guy up the street to check my diamonds for me.
On my first platinum ring, the main stone in it was fake and I knew it. I also had an engagement ring, I knew the stone was real.
I take them in, he tells me the plat stone was fake and offered me $25 (for a ring with 460 melt value). He then tells me the .80 carat diamond is a fake and he'll give me $20.00 for that.

I pushed my little bangs aside, asked him was their a sticker on my forehead, that said "stupid"?
I also apologized to him(while laughing), for not being one of the neighborhood druggies, and for knowing better.
:laughing7: He don't like me now. :laughing7:

I would laugh my head off, if that was who bought that stuff, down here! LOL!

same here. Me thinks that's why he low balled him.
he knew it was a shady deal, & figured he'd risk loosing it for $6 grand

Oh- the dealer didn't walk away clean... he will never get his 6K back. In Florida when a pawn dealer buys stolen goods, he has no recourse to get the cash back and the cops confiscate and return the property to the owner.

That is a worse fine or punishment than the court could ever impose.

On a philosophical note - is a buyer a thief if the seller accepts a low ball offer? While I'm not writing to go over board on supporting pawn dealers, I will point out that they have to offer a price that reflects used, WHOLESALE value. Very pertinent to used cameras, TVs etc. etc. They should, IMHO however, offer prices that may be below the current value of gold or silver should still be close enough to reflect that value. If not, find another buyer. My two bits.

Your story says two different things, if pawn broker bought the stuff he is a crook. But it also says he pawned the stuff meaning he gave a loan with the intent the stuff would be returned upon payment.
