Well each year I look forward to heading out to DIV for several reasons. I have made many good friends through the years that I enjoy seeing each trip. I have also been lucky enough to make many great finds. This trip didn't disappoint on the fun or the finds. This was a back to back hunt that allowed me to dig for seven straight days in some civil war winter quarters. These sites are tough to hunt due to the highly mineralized ground and TONS of iron in the ground but I took my GPX 4800 and went to town. I made may good finds but my favorites have to be the Confederate block A, the Bugle mouth piece and the 8 sided inkwell.

Congratz on a great hunt and having fun! I love the inkwell!

That's awesome!!! I can't imagine what it would be like to hunt ground like that for 7 days. It would take me 7 more just to come down! Great finds. Thanks for sharing

That bugle mouthpiece is phenomenal. Easily banner material in my humble opinion. Congrats on that and the rest!!

I see you managed to sqeeze out a little Culpeper nectar. Not an easy thing to do as many times as those two farms have been hunted.

Indeed I did Steve, don't let those two farms fool you. There are still tons of relics in there.

I been to both farms several times including DIV V when Brandy Rock was first hunted. After 13 DIVs I had to quit because you needed a GPX to do any good after they had multiple hunts on the same ground. My TDI required that I dig a lot of holes, and the pain from my arthritis and carpal tunnel became unbearable. I'm glad you got some quality relics.

I defiantly understand as I did dig a TON of holes. I wish I would have known about DIV when it was first getting started but I was a little late to the party. Most of the targets were 8-14 inches down.

Incredible Finds
7 days,, 2 farms full of Civil War relics, great southern cooking,
Fellowship to the max, where do I sign up??
Congrats on a Super expedition.

Its an open invitational hunt, they have twice a year. One in the spring and one in the fall. If you Google Diggin' in Virginia it should pop up. I will warn you that most sites require the use of a PI machine due to the highly mineralized ground.

Heck of a week man. The mouth piece is outstanding, not a piece that is commonly found. That beautiful Artillery button is a different story:icon_thumright:.Congrats on all those nice finds man. HH

Nice finds! I wanted to sign up for this go round but the funds were needed for a bathroom remodel (booo). They ever going to do a DIV on DIVirgin ground?

Hard to say, with the exception of one spot I still do well at all the other farms. I know they are constantly looking but the tried and true spots always seem to have the best chances. The two farms we just hunted are still loaded with relics, we just may have to work a little harder to find them.

With that being said, I'm looking forward to the DIPA in a few weeks, hoping to pull a rev war button

PI recommended, but I hunted with a local kid and his dad who tore it up exclusively with VLF detectors (Whites MXT/ML CTX3030). Just got to know how your machine responds to the conditions and that come with experience. Even though I brought a Garrett ATX, which has been a productive PI machine for me at DIV, I was able to come up with a few nice finds (three buttons and several dropped and fired bullets) using my Deus so there are some relatively shallow finds out there at these pounded sites that can still be found with a vlf but you will also have to dig a lot of iron as well. However, if you want to go deep, PI is the way to go. And as alluded to in the quoted post, the conditions there are highly variable depending on where you choose to hunt. The one thing DIV has taught me is that there are no absolutes when it comes to detecting.

Agree that VLF's can still find relics its just harder like you said. Some of the targets I found last trip I know for sure a VLF would have found, others I know they wouldn't have. I have seen many quality relics pulled out with VLF's but if you are going expecting to hit the mother load with a VLF its a bit unrealistic.
