Well I went back for round 2, "dove" back in the dumpster and really hit it big today!!! I have just been so excited all day and now I will share my enjoyment with ya'll. I think I found everything but the kitchen sink in the dumpster. I found boy scout canteen, patches, buttons, more old pictures, lots of costume jewlry, a 10 kt gold ring, a 14kt saftey pin, 2 14kt gold watches, a seiko watch,a lot of keys including about 75 skeleton keys , a bunch of lighters (Zippo), old bottles, a bunch of silver ware, and to top it all off I was going through 1 bag with a lot of envelopes and 1 felt bulky so I riped it open and theres a little red pouch and inside low ad behold three SILVER coins (1898 Morgan, 1922 Peace, and 1964 Kennedy half) "Oh my God" all this and I didn't swing my detector at all. I know I am leaving out so much other stuff but there is just too much to mention.

I agree that this is a great find for you. The whole situation really shows the importance to estate planning. Even if you don't have decendants to hand things down to, you can still plan on the use of your belongings to see that they benefit someone. In this case, they have gone to someone who will use them wisely but they could have also been used by an addict to support a bad habit or just buried in a landfill and forever forgotten.

Really amazing stuff though.

Congrats,

DaChief

When you're done looking through all that, you'll know more about the person who lived there than the person who threw it all away! Even the old photos are treasure because they show the history of someone's life.

Maybe you can get a pickup and take all those bags home with you so you can go over everything slowly in private, then throw out the real trash in another bag.

Nice find, you were at the right place at the right time.

Congrats cause they are getting harder to come by nowadays with all the antique shows on tv..

yep -- those folks just want to cash out --the persons major $$ thing 's-- normally what they go after is its the home , the car and high dollar jewelry and they say "chuck the rest" ---these fine "next of kin" don't want to "bother" with looking thru the all of grannies or grandpas old junk "stuff" just chuck everything in the place and so they can sell the home as fast as possible for some quick and easy $$$$ folks like that make me wish the old folks had left everything they owned to a dog shelter or something like that -- but their haste , stupidity and greed are to your benefit, save and enjoy some of the little treasures that the person stored up --be proud of the fact that you did not just let it go into a land fill --you are doing a good thing for the old folks that passed away by keeping bits of their lives intact via the items they loved --- if you are "rewarded" by cash by selling the items to someone who will care for and love the items or by keep it for yourself so be it -- since your treating their "stuff" with more respect then the old folks own kin are. ---- Ivan

OH that is so, so sad. :'( To think someone's life memories thrown into the trash. :'( And the pictures. Who would throw away pictures? My Mom passed away three years ago and going through all her keepsakes was like being with her again. I still have most of them, my Sis selected what she wanted to keep, I displayed some of the things in my own home to remember her by, put the pictures in a safe place. The rest is in boxes in the basement and I just can't bring myself to get rid of them. :-\

I am so happy you saved all these items from the trash! :) It's hard to believe someone would just toss 'em. :(

Nana :)

I'm suprised that you didn't hook the dumpster to the back of your car and drag it home...think of what you may have missed.

:'( :'( :'( :'( ??? ??? It makes me sad to think that all that stuff was just chunked in the trash. Especially that little ring. It also makes me wonder what all my dad threw away when my grandparents died. Unlike my mother, who tried to keep evrything when her parents died, he's the type of person who don't give a rip. He didn't even bother contacting us when he went to the house to clean it out or when he sold their house.
Very Sad

Wow. I'm so overwhelmed I dont even know how to respond. Simply amazing. You've gotta have four or five hundred dollars worth of stuff there. Gold ring, gold watches, three great coins. Unbelievable.

My God! I can't believe how stupid some people are. I'm so happy that someone came along, recognized what was being thrown out, and rescued it. Hopefully, some of it you will put to good use, and the rest you will part with, and maybe put some of the money away for your kids education. Rings, watches, silver coins, jewelry, etc. and on an on. It is quite eveident, that these people had no interest in their loved ones past or history, and just wanted to "empty the house". Sad, really sad. Glad you were there. WTG, and hope you have more days and detours like this one.

J J J J JJJJAAAACKPOT !!!!!! I hope you know how to Ebay! Your set for a nice vacation next year once you sell off some of those nice items. Congratulations!! WAY TO GO!!!

Newnan that is AWESOME !!!!

I gotta ask , what kind of dopes throw all that stuff out ???????????????????????????????????????

??????????????????????

?

Their loss - your gain !! :o

Seeing Part 1 and now this,if someone ever did this with all my life's memorie's I'd come back and Haunt the Hell out of em'.Look's like they really wanted NO part of this person to be remembered.Very Sad....But Newman...Great head's up,at least some will live on.Nice Dive's.....

WOW, I used to work for Waste Management, and found alot of good stuff. But, looks like you hit the mother load!!! xlthunter

Wow, what can be said. Some people are not nostalgic about their relatives and ancestors belongings. Much less just throwing money in the dump!

Bless you for saving these from the trash heap.

Happy Hunting/Holidays!

Wow!! I mean OMG!! You hit the mother load! It is such a shame the people do that kinda thing, but it happens all too often. Just lucky you that you found them. Do I hear EBAY!! Man,I'd keep your favorite pieces and collectibles and sell the rest. I love dumpster diving too, but I've never gotten THAT lucky. Good Job!!

Moon

they could of at least had an estate sale..but, either they gotta do that..which means taking up their time to organize it... or paying someone to do it all..and they get a percentage of it.... even going to an estate sale is so sad..right down to the canned goods... that persons life is strewn out on the floor of the house room by room. I have been to two estate sales..I just cant go to em..they just are too damn sad for me...

but I am also glad you salvaged some of it... shame on them..

That is the mother lode of all mother lodes.
I'm glad to see rescue that person's life from the
dumpster. What some people consider trash is
a dumpster divers treasure. Wish I could be there
to help you.
