This engine looks as if it was built with a CO2 cylinder, but actually has a steel cylinder which was filled with gasoline, which was placed over a heat source in the steel tray below. The heat source caused the gasoline to vaporize and spray back into the tube at the rear, where combustion took place. Although the device worked, it didn't produce a lot of power and also doesn't really seem to be the something that kids should have played with, since it was not only a potential fire hazard, but possibly could explode.

Holy smokes! Now i get it. It is NOT CO2.

As kids we used to fill a beer bottle with gasoline, put the cap back on lightly and set the bottle full of gas on hot coals. OMG it would shoot a jet flame high into the air lol. But if the cap was on too tight, it would explode and shoot glass everywhere.

Nice shot Charlie! I can see kids today using gasoline to run a rocket engine!

very true but then again we played with mercury, carbon tetrachloride, firecrackers, M-80s and made zip guns as kids as well as chew on lead.

It's not CO2. The cylinder is filled with gasoline, aparantly, and the heat of a flame in the lower pan vaporizes it and the internal components keep ot pressurized and shooting out the back. Where it sucks air in around the collar and jets it out the back.

I'd love to see one work!

Here's a slightly bigger one. Note it's getting plum color from the heat and by the end is pretty red!

My brother bought one back in the 60's . It was from an ad in a comic book . We almost set the cellar on fire , luckily the cellar had a cement floor . Mom was up cooking supper . Bro didn't wait long enough for the tank to heat up , and when he lit it , it shot a 4 foot stream of flaming liquid into a puddle of flames , flames 4 feet tall . We got the fire out & went to eat dinner . No smoke detectors back then - or we would of been in trouble . I was 6 , he was 10 .

I do believe this one has been solved. I didn't have any doubts on Treasurenet. Charlie, you did a fine job. Thanks to all of you for your help.
