Most "buttons" which show a railroad STEAM-ENGINE locomotive (like we see on yours) are actually a "rivet-button" from Trainmen's coveralls/overalls, and date from the latter-1800s through the very-early 20th Century. (After that time, railroad locomotives switched from having a steam engine to diesel engines.)

You did not tell us the button's size, which is important information needed for CERTAINTY in identifying some types of buttons. Most Trainmen's coveralls/overalls rivetbuttons are between 5/8" and 3/4" in diameter.
