Werewolf caches in Germany

in the 60's when I was in Jr High School my history teacher told a story as a young girl living in the Ponte Vedra area of having playmates that lived near the ocean.
Her friends had a locked room in their house that they were forbid by their parents to enter.
One day playing at the house they found the room unlocked and entered.
She said there was a nazi flag, radio and a bunch of papers written in another language.
My teacher said she ran home to tell her parents who called the authorities.
Several hours later when they got to the house the family was gone and never seen or heard from.

there was a reason the ponte vedra area was used as a landing spot * most likely they had a local agent "in place"--the room that your school teacher saw as a child was most likely the "local agent" * put in place long before by the nazi's *

the next stop on the ponte vedra spys route was jacksonville a important transport and port city --I'm sure that the nazi's most likely had a "local nazi spy agent" in the jacksonville area as well.--it might have been the "travel pass" person * (valentine koppel) -- who's 1935 era travel pass on the M/S MONTE OLIVIA * I found

I'm just curious whether or not any treasure hunters in Germany have been searching for, or stumbled upon, any of the werewolf caches hidden towards the end of WW2 . Fascinating stuff in my opinion. Would love to here about it.

I was stationed south of Stuttgart, Germany in 1975. I travelled a lot between the Alps at Germany's southern border with Austria, and Frankfurt to the north. I had the opportunity to visit two Werewolf caches in southern Germany. One near Sigmarinin, and another near Munich. It is fairly common that these caches were cleaned out post war, by the same people that stocked and staffed them during the war. There were not thousands of them, simply dozens. I actually found Roman coins while looking for Nazi gold! I am positive there are huge caches of all kinds of goodies in sealed caves and tunnels all over Europe, that were just too big and too secret for individuals to recover or rob. The US government took everything the Russians did not - that could be found at the time. The Brits got very little. Interesting stuff. Lot's of military in my family. Even my maternal grandmother! She flew new fighters and bombers from Grumman on Long Island to San Francisco to be delivered to the military pilots - well, she was military - Women's Air Corp. Great thread. Hope it keeps going! - Terry

In the middle to late 70's there was a News show that had something about this . I remember that they had seen lights coming on in an area of Germany that was used by the S.S it was an old bunker zone .
After a few years of hearing about the lights the German and U.S Army went in to investigate , the reason no one else did before was the huge amount of land mines that had been there during the war that were not removed . Still areas marked like this around .
What was found was storage of a little money and gold that was to be used by the S.S after the war , someone had been having meetings there but it was said that it was just a few people and not very many. I remember they found a power cable that had been tied into the main power sometime after the war and this was how they where getting power.
I would have to look online to see about this as it was a big story when it came out ! I just can not remember any real details about it other than they found the items as above and a few weapons that had been take care of and were still in working order . But nothing big that was earth shaking.
This was not long after the stories and a few photos of an older Uboat that had been seen in the Atlantic by cargo ships . This was a photo of one of there later models , so it was assumed that this boat was being serviced by a South American country as it takes a lot to keep something like this in working order .

If I remember right the last photo of the boat was in 1960 and at the time of the show it had not been photographed sense that date. But it was a good photo that they had of the boat on the surface .

If any of you are old enough as to remember this, post what you do remember as I would like to find if the show or anything about it is still around to watch or read !

This was before the web so it many be in some archive that we can get to .

When I was young and starting my Government service career I had occasion to interact with a German agency. One of German senior officials had been a SS Lieutenant General during WWII. I actually sat in meetings presided over by this gentleman.
I remember asking one of my superiors how this could be and he told me that 8 million dead Jews don't vote in German elections but 20 million former Nazis did.
It was then I realized what a man did during the war didn't have any account once the treaties were signed. All water over the dam.

Wow...great topic and quite educational. I thought this was a joke about Werewolves, like the sci-fi type so I didn't read it.

Quite informational.
My dad was stationed on a beach in California to watch for subs. Never realized some actually came ashore anywhere in the US.

Sounds like there could be lots of trove from that war but I wonder how accessible it is with the massive bombing the US did in some of the cities. In my genealogical research, I came to a dead end when it came to records from Darmstat. The city was darn near bombed into oblivion along with historical records that were in churches and such.

I titled the post that way to see how many people pay attention :laughing7: Uboats came quite close to the eastcoast shores. WW1 a german uboat shelled a boat yard in maine. WW2 they got close enough to make out car headlights with the naked eye, plus drop off landing parties.

Fascinating topic!!!!!

As an avid reader of WWII history, everything that I've read is exactly what Westfront has said.

If I am correct with this, the Werwolf movement was only big because Joseph Goebbels said it was. In reality, not much Werwolf activity took place.

FWIW, the Werwolf movement did worry the Allies at the end of the war, along with some other things. The US was interested in ending the war, so they sent their forces south to crush any pullback of the Germans. This allow the Soviets to continue westward, capturing all of Berlin, and more of Germany. The Allies under Eisenhower's command were justified in these action, and had reason to believe that the Nazis were planning on pulling back to the south.

What is interesting is that these military actions changed the geo-political landscape and changed the face of Europe for 50 years after the war.

I find it odd because the Nazis hated communists so badly...and with Goebbels running his mouth so much about the Werwolf movement...it brought millions of Germans, and half their nation, to be under the thumb of the Soviets for so long.

I'm no expert on this topic, but it is fascinating to me.
I took the big 3 Art History courses in college and studied European buildings and realized "Gargoyles" weren't taught because they were a "Mary Shelly" or some other later, post-High Gothic writer's invention.

Eh? What?

I don't see the relevance, but gargoyles (as real or fantastical carved figures with mouth spouts for rainwater diversion away from buildings) go all the way back to Ancient Egypt and were at their peak of popularity in the European Middle Ages... especially for churches and cathedrals.

Werewolf legends go all the way back to Roman times and, again, feature prominently in Mediaeval European folklore.

Sorry for bringing this old thread back to the top but I have a slightly related story...

I am in the UK, and during WW2, we had highly secret stay behind Forces known as Auxiliary Units with a similar function to the German Werewolves.

These Aux Units were so secret, it wasn't until the 1980's their existence and the role they played started to become public knowledge.

They to had hidden under ground bunkers were they would be based in the event of an invasion and they held food water, arms and ammunition ect..

Most of these were destroyed after the war, but a few were lost and from time to time they are found, usually empty though...
