I went to an estate sale this morning and I have never been to one like this before. They gave you a number and let you enter in order. I was number 42. I was there mainly for the boy scout patches (which I did not get) and look at the civil war books. OMG they had hundreds of books in several rooms. The book shelves were full. Many first edition books from the 1800's. If it pertained to the civil war it was probably there. The prices were higher than I wanted to pay but I am sure they were still worth it. I did manage to buy a very large atlas with maps and drawings of battles throughout the war. It was only $15. The lady in line ahead of me asked the person how much for the civil war magazines. They were priced $.25 each. The lady said she would take $5.00 for all of them. I was sick because there were over 500 magazines. I am going to go back tomorrow as they will mark down what did not sell if there is anything good left. I guess I am not an estate sale professional. But it was nice to see all the books.
***WENT BACK TODAY***
Everything was marked down 50%. I bought two big boxes of THE CIVIL WAR NEWS (approx. 150). Included were about 20 CIVIL WAR TIMES ILLUSTRATED mostly dated 1960's and early 70's, NORTH SOUTH TRADER from the 1970's. I paid $3.00 for it all. I am sure there are some more surprises. Also got a 1930 JEB STUART book for $2.50, and an 1893 CONFEDERATE SCRAP BOOK for $10.00 and a 1st edition MAJOR-GENERAL J.E.B. STUART book for $10.00. Most of the really good books were already taken but there are still some good buys. Tomorrow should be even better as everything must go and will take offers.
