I dug this where I found an old map
 

Yup, looks like a lead automotive battery cable terminal. To me it looks to be one that was attached to a cable instead of a replacement terminal which usually had a clamp for the cable. My guess would be somewhere between the 1950's and 1970's. could be a bit earlier or later, but, as fourman110 mentioned, they're a common design that have been made for decades. I just chuck them into the lead bucket after I remove any other attached metals.
