Went back to the lake this evening. Took the waders, home made scoop and Styrofoam floating table and went swishing, knee deep with my XLT which put me at about chest level at normal water levels in this partially drained lake. Hunted for about two relaxing hours even though a swisher knows that a water hunt moves in slow motion, everything about it moves slow. Struggled on several pull tabs trying to get them out of their home but I did well retrieving targets in swish mode. The XLT did great considering it?s a land machine, would have used the Fisher CZ7A but I had a major battery collapse, another story. Here?s the finds.
Found these on Sunday, a token for a ? liter of beer and I think it?s from the late 1800s. And a nice little pin that?s an award for becoming a junior/first level life guard. The pin says ?Basic course? ?lifeguard? ?Bavarian Red Cross?
Silver! The ring on the left I thought was a junker but after looking at it when I washed it off I could see a .925 stamp in it. A small .925 silver earring and a .835 silver cross. Haven?t cleaned them other than washing them off with water.
About 45 minutes into the hunt and after a few measly coins gladly found, I scooped up this 14K gold ring. What a motivator! I found about 14 Euros worth in mixed coins (American clad, Euros and German Marks) this evening. After the hunt I was standing at my car getting ready to put away my gear and a Fisherman drives up and parked next to me. He asked me if that was a Metal detector and conversation followed. He saw my waders and was surprised I was swishing in the water then told me they are going to completely drain the lake this year but not until late November after fishing season is over. He also warned me that the middle of the lake has very deep mud. I have seen it when it has been empty and this lake might get better on the finds soon. HH, Mike
