Yea that material looks rather lose, id take a hammer to it. Im like you im only interested in the gemmy stuff, but with mineralization like that id assume its close but you might have hours or days of back braking rock moving and hammering, but you might hit a pocket, i have been wanting to map the southern CA tourmaline mines in an attempt to locate new locations to mine from if they were on public land, not that im close being in PA. With decaying pegamtite like that you stand a good chance of hitting a pocket if you move the earth., if you start seeing dark red clay you know your close to a pocket, i have read multiple stories of people getting random colored tourmaline's down that way back in the 50-70s when it wasnt as big a deal to go out and dig. They just go out on random hills in the tourmaline bearing region and find colored tourmaline in the decaying pegmatites.

your only going to get colored tourmaline if you hit a pocket, or go to the bottom of the hill and start sifting, and you might get lucky and catch the remains of a decayed pocket that washed down hill

If i was you id go out and start digging a hole at the very top of the hill around the 3rd-5th picture and mine and sift a cubic yard to see what it turns up then id go north, south, east, and west in a 5-10 ft diameter do the same thing the deeper the better. Your just going to have to move as much earth as possible its the only way to know.

wilfndgold i think you messeaged me awhile ago about digging, id love to help dig if you were ever needing help, im on the east coast so that doesnt help much, but id love to come out west and move some earth some time.
