So I have been wanting to try to hunt of local lake, Lake Ponchatrain, which I already know produce some old coin relics that used to be used by ships from New Orleans to my neck of the woods for trade. Well with the heat and everything things lined up with the low tide being at 6am, I have the stealth scoop, I bought chest waiters the whole 9 yards. Well water hunting absolutely sucks!! I can’t do it it’s not for me. I’m a dirty mud digger and my hat goes off to all the water hunters out there. It’s not as easy as I thought.

I know this is very old, but I know where there's a small strip of beach on Pontchartrain. Its not very far from the old Spanish fort either. I'll hit the water but only knee deep. There's Bull Sharks in there. I'll be going before the real heat gets here.

I do both but I have got to say that my most valuable finds have come from the water.

Just a comment to the folks that fear the chest waders for drowning. If you use a proper belt on your waders and fall you might get wet and embarrassed, but your waders won't fill with water and drown you. I squeeze the air out of mine and tighten the belt around my waist when I'm in the water. I've used mine while detecting in cold water up to about my crotch many times but it was clear and calm water in a lake. As always be careful and use your equipment correctly!
