Well I guess you can’t teach an old dog new tricks.

After my last hunt I had way too much trash with the outcome of a buffalo nickel. So I went back to the drawing board on the type of guy who has
ADD and the larger the field is the the father I will walk and walk and walk. So I decided to tweak up my 800 and stay in a 20 x 20 area and scrub it with my 6 inch coil. It was hard for me because I can’t even metal detecting a straight line but I scrubbed it very slowly and I took my time and I came up with some goodies and not much trash as I would usually get.

My total surprise is this beautiful three ringer that I found at the fort I’ve gone there over 100 times and I never thought I would get a three ring her out of there so this is something special it’s also a lot shorter and sharper at the top and I don’t have one of those so I’m very proud of that. Watch your phone it’s where you found it and I found this one add an 18th-century Fort That has been pounded since the 70s and it’s still produces for me I’m grateful image-2020-06-21-17:22:37-125.jpg

I’m super happy that I got that for a wrangler from that particular Ford I’ve done very well there but it’s a lot of hard work since you’re breaking through brick, White shell mounds and oyster shells that’s why I have a big red they told me it’s impossible to break which I broke every shovel I’ve ever had but yes this one is the true deal. Not to mention it was a park after all that history so there’s a lot of pulltabs and everything else in a park. But I truly believe I’ve got the best out of it. I’m wondering about the three ringer being shorter and much more pointy. Any suggestions let me know this piece of land will go from the late 17th century all the way through 1930.

Ive hunted with many over the yrs and many of them have tried to cover a football size area in like a 1/2 hr
on land or water - ive always detected slow and a smaller coil - i wouldnt have half my finds if i didnt
i try gridding everywhere i go
if i dont get anything in a while i will move on but Im not a "jumper" - I try working systematically
helps wearing a mask if viz is good - finding hard bottom or underwater cuts
I experienced the same probs as others summer hunting land - my first 20 yrs detecting
I was a 90% land hunter - 10% water - since 2000 Ive been a 90% water hunter
I can only stand the heat if im in the water - I have had a night job since I was 17 yrs old and dont like the sun much either
my eyes are very light sensitive - i wear a special mask with special lens - hated getting poison ivy every summer and hate the bugs
If i could live in the water I would
when i hit an old spots - i slow down and go for whispers and with my mask try and hunt small holes and around
rocks and such the guys with big coils cant - it has paid off

Ive found about 20 varieties of minie balls -3 ringers
I suggest going to the what is it forum or going to the CW forum and ask the professionals
lay next to a ruler and weigh it if possible

Some very nice finds you made Truth! Thanks for sharing!

There's one in here that looks close. .54 3 Ring pressed and turned

I am thinking of doing the same. I have three solid civil war permissions that I can hunt forever. So some of the pressure is off. I will try my 6" coil on some smaller area like you did. I have nothing to loose. Don't quite have the humidity that you have down there, but still it is pretty rough in Atlanta area and north georgia. But it is better in the mornings cause this time of the year you can almost count on an afternoon thunder and lighting storm come booming in from Alabama.
