Welcome to the site! Please post an introduction thread.

Hi there! I just signed in today and wanted to say Howdy! My husband and I live in California, in Gold Country, Amador County. He's always been interested in prospecting, and I've just kind of nodded and said "that's nice". So, he showed me some YouTube videos, we went to the Gold Show in Alameda, CA and I'm excited to learn! Thanks for having me! He'll be joining in at some point, but he's chain sawing some trees right now. :) Thanks for all of the great info on here!

Thanks! You're correct on the biting back part. It came down in the last huge storm. 167' total of debris and trees from root ball to tip. It was our neighbor's old black oak. I've never heard a sound so frightening in my life. Yikes! Anyway, firewood for this coming winter if it seasons well! He's a CalFire certified tree faller, so we're ok for now until the next one I suppose. :) Thanks again for the welcome!

Hello my name is Indigo Digger. I have always liked history, the outdoors, and adventure.
I began metal detecting the first week of January 2017. The machine I use is a second-hand entry level Garrett Ace 150.
New to the hobby I didn't, rather couldn't afford a better machine.
The town of Coventry, here in Rhode Island is among one of the oldest in the State (1741).Well at least I had a couple hundred years of history on my side.

My first hunt I expected to find at least a six pack of can slaw, possibly even enough clad to cover the State sales tax on a dollar.
Boy was I WRONG!!!
My first find metal detecting 2017 was a MASSIVE brass skeleton key. I was instantly hooked, my body surged with excitement what an experience.
The finds didn't stop there either. Within the span of 4-5 hours I had dug about a dozen assorted colonial buckles. I found more buttons than are on a remote control. Included in these button finds were Civil War Infantry, a general service, and a crossed rifle collar button. There were several others with beautiful design work, some were pretty worn but standard colour was still legible around their shanks.
I found railroad tokens, and bale seals placed on goods dating back to the mid 1800's.
As if that all wasn't mind numbing enough for a newbie his first day dirt fishing my detector still had more in store.
My next and last find that hunt was a 1903 Barber Quarter.

Since then I have made even more finds, pontil bottles, clay pipes, jewelry, pewter relics, gold, and silver.
My most recent finds are a 1729 King George II Britannia and a 1782 Hibernia Half Penny.

I have included pictures of some of my first finds and will try to update and post my more recent hunts here.

If you would like to watch my hunts check out my YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/c/IndigoDigger

Hello, Everyone!!
I'm Matthew, I usually do coin roll hunting. But, I'm interested in all kinds of coinage, no matter where you may find it. My biggest concern, lately, is with thsee cheap zinc Lincoln pennies. I just don't think they'll handle any significant time underground. Have many of you come across any yet while detecting? The older pennies where great to find. The Bronze composition could hold up a little better, but zinc? Might as well be made from sugar cubes. Would appreciate your thoughts on this matter.
Thanks!

New to the site and to the hobby. Have enjoyed my finds and the five pounds I have lost since starting.
I live in West Virginia and soon will be a retired school teacher and coach.

I am a newbie from Texas. Searching for Fenn's treasure. Have taken two trips to New Mexico searching. Changing up this year and will go to Montana to search. Truly enjoy the treasure I find just being in the outdoors. 3 of my adult children will join me this year. Planning on throwing in a little fishing and camping.

Hello All,
I am another new one!
I live in North Alabama and walk the creeks, sometimes for hours. I always return home with a bucket of "rocks" Most of which are probably just that, rocks. They are interesting to me so I bring them home.
I have found three arrowheads!! I would really like to know their type. I have tried researching them however I don't trust my judgement just yet to determine that information.
Is there a thread where I can post the pictures?
Thanks

Welcome Aboard! Take a look at Sub-Forums: Alabama for information (i.e., clubs, etc.) directly related to your state. Now, on your Arrorheads - a good starting point would be North American Indian Artifacts...

Hello everyone. I'm from Northern New Jersey ( land of McMansion's, lot's of malls, traffic and a ever growing pack of soccer moms.) ;)

Many years ago I had a Radio Shack MD with a vu meter (the ex took that.) Anyways I recently got my grubby mitts on a nib Bounty Hunter Pioneer 202 on the cheap.
I'm waiting for the snow to FINALLY melt so I can go hit up some local parks and the like.

I'm also joining a local MD group so I hopefully they (and you all) can show me the tricks of the trade.

Hi Ya All!! I'm from Grants Pass, Oregon. Been a metal Detecting enthusiast for many years. Been mostly a coin and artifact searcher but want to pursue nugget shooting now that I'm retired. Been using an old White's coin master and a White's gmt since they 1st came out. Could use some recommendations! Can anyone here give some advice on the Minelab 5000 verse the White's TDI SL or maybe the White's Spectra V3I verse any other good detectors? Look forward to interacting with you!
