All Treasure Hunting
Here's my finds from Saturday, 5 February, 2011. I almost tossed the silver cross-looking thing, as it was all black like a piece of junk metal. But after I soaked it in my home-made silver tarnish remover, the telltale "925" mark of Sterling Silver was revealed - and the tarnish all came off nicely. But what is it? I think it may be the center metal clasp of a wooden crucifix, where the wood has long since rotted away. Not really sure.

In addition to all the money, there where a lot of steel and a single silver ring found this week. The silver ring was badly beaten up, and heavily tarnished. It must have been buried in the salty sand for a while.

The best find was the 22kt gold ring. My running streak of finding at least one gold ring per week is still going!

What's amazing is the beaches here replenish their treasure so quickly. I found all this stuff on the same beach I always hunt, in pretty much the same stretch of sand. It just keeps renewing itself each week, and with no one else searching I can't imagine what I will find before I leave Singapore next July.

Nice finds, looks like alot of fun. Do you mind telling us your homemade tarnish remover's formula? Thanks HH

For removing silver tarnish, I do this:

1. Line the inside of small pot with aluminum foil, shinny side up.
2. Add 3 inches of water and bring to a boil, then turn off the heat.
3. Drop in the silver items.
4. Sprinkle some baking soda (or salt) over the top.
5. Watch as the oxygen is removed from the silver-oixide tarnish within minutes.

After about 5 minutes I drop it in my ultrasonic jewelry cleaner for 3 minutes and all the tarnish is gone. A little polishing, and voila!

I honestly would not know what to do with myself if I had a place to detect like that. Kick back..Ice Chest full of some cold beverage and swing till my swing couldn't swing anymore. :laughing7: Hog heaven! Nice finds.

Yah, and this was when I was just learning. The last time I went to this beach was even more crazy:

Last weekend the tide was not good, but this coming Saturday and Sunday the tide will be lowest at 0900AM, so I will be there at 0700. By noon the temperature is too hot to enjoy this, so I will put in about 4 hours each day and see what I can scrape up. Should be fun!

If anyone wants to come over and help me cart all this stuff away, you are all most welcome to join me. The Singaporeans look at me as you would to someone dumpster diving. I don't think there will be much competition here for years.
