ErikInNJ and I met up with NJLARGECENT for NJ's birthday. We hit some amazing properties (on paper at least) and found some cool stuff. Here are my finds from the 3-day outing:

Day one:
NJ and I hit a new-ish house in a very old town. No expectations, but we figured, what the heck.

I found what I think is a hammer that rings the bells on an alarm clock:

A soldier on a horse with no legs:

And kept my silver streak alive with this 1942 Mercury dime:

Day two:

We started the day at a Victorian mansion, which again, didn't produce a whole lot, but I managed to keep my silver streak alive with this 1928 SLQ:

We then headed to another very old property, but it was tiny and produced nothing. But we chatted up a neighbor who was friends with the property owner of an abandoned home next door and he gained us access. Again, nothing major to write home about but cool finds nonetheless:

Flat button (I think it's corroded, no design):

And a Kendal Oil token, circa 1950ish:

From there we hit a HUGE horse farm. Right off the bat I found a button, but then nothing else the next couple hours:

W. WALLIS PLATED - Circa 1800-1828

Day three:

By this time, this is what my car looked like:

We started off at another small, old property. Each time Erik came over to me to tell me the property wasn't producing I found something good:

Silver streak continued with a 1942 Mercury dime and this beautiful 1898 Indian Head penny:

We then headed to a large property, which has a modern home but old land. Again, not a lot of finds...

Flatty (not Fatty) 1885 Indian Head penny (that I thought was a small colonial coin):

And a really nice flat button (can any experts age it?)

At some point in the weekend I found this silver plated spoon, but I can't remember which property :-/

Nice finds Grant and a fun weekend for sure! The spoon was found at the house we got permission to next to the "stage coach" property (I know there is still good stuff there)--you and James certainly pulled a couple of good finds out of the ground on other properties that wasn't really producing, but you slogged through the oppressive heat and scored some finds :icon_thumleft:

Thanks for the reminder. I think sweat got in my brain. I have to better decipher the initials and see if I can find a match to a previous homeowner.

The '89 IH cent will clean up very well in a couple of baths of warm peroxide and a soft toothbrush. Put some melted bees wax on it afterwards then rub it down with a Q-Tip dipper in rubbing alchohol and repost :icon_thumleft:

Agreed. Would love to hit an hour or two at a time and grid it hard. Same thing with the horse farm after learning the age of the button I found.

Look like you guys had a great time!! Nice finds too Grant!!

Great Story man.... that trunk looked trashed, LOL. Congrats on some awesome finds, Thanks for sharing 8-)

Some very interesting finds there Grant. Love that little hammer. Never seen one of those dug before.

Thanks Bill. I love finding items that at first I don't know what they are but indeed later identify. And to find something so unexpected and random, to me, is even cooler. Now... where the heck was the rest of the clock??

Good Luck to All you NJ diggers and Congrats on a terrific saves , especially tough with all the bugs biting like Krazy this season

Looks like a great hunt! Really nice coins.

Car pic would make a great MD'rs vacation post card.

Erik, here she is after round 1 in warm peroxide. She's going to be chocolately beautiful when I'm done with her!

Hi Grant - You should be able to get all of that remaining dirt off the coin with peroxide and a tooth brush--apply some melted beeswax afterwards....will look great--that's a nice looking cent!! :icon_thumleft:

Yup! You've exactly detailed my exciting and romantic Thursday night plans: a warm bath (peroxide), exfoliation and hot wax.
