I have just spent the weekend with a friend detecting the farm fields around Fort Ridgely near Fairfax MN. I have been hunting these fields for a good number of years now. It was nice to once again meet up with the landowners after the long summer and swing a coil over what is truly historic ground. Crops for the most part are still in the fields but we were able to do some hunting in a few open areas and still able to pluck a few items from the ground.
Remember: Fort Ridgely is a State park under the stewardship of the Minnesota Historical Society and as such is strictly off limits to metal detecting. All items listed were recovered from private land with the permission of the owner:
2 round Balls, 1 Three Ring Bullet, 1 Pieces of Shrapnel, 1 very nice Bormann Fuse and 1 nice condition pewter pants button.
The pewter button was found in a wooded area at a depth of 6 inches. All of the other targets were recovered from farm fields and as such have cuts and damage after being hit by plows over the last 150 years.
