I tried a new park today and I think I was expecting too much. Because of this I started feeling a bit frustrated and feeling like another failed hunt was at hand. Couldn't put a finger on it but it felt like nothing was coming out. You know.
Funny thing was, "things" WERE coming out and at pretty much the same rate as any other hunt.
Blingie was wishing he had hair today. LOL
The whatzitz corner. Just a top from a ring, some sort of yellow something and a big gray blob.
About that big gray blob? We'll come back to that to explore why weird blobs are worthy of our attention.
Looks like a top piece of a ring to me.
The back of this says "Liberty Classic" (no clue )
Then, I get this hit. Nothing really spectacular about it, just good enough in this VERY mineralized ground that I decided to dig. Sounded like maybe a deep penny. I dug and checked the hole, nothing. Dug deeper and wider, still nothing. Rechecked with the detector, no signal!! Dangit!! Frustrated at being fooled, I refilled and stomped the plug back into place. Then, as I always do, I rechecked. There was the signal again! HUH!?!
I was going to pass it up but nothing else was doing either so, I dug again. Wouldn't you know it, the signal completely disappears again. I even went a little deeper. I was down to about 8 inches already. The pointer was no help, not even when I extended it's range. Finally I shrugged and refilled again.
This time I was just going to walk away, not even recheck the repaired hole, (which was starting to get ugly). I swung left, right, then did a 360 and went back over the former hole. Yep. There again. I was getting just a bit perturbed at this point.
I was tempted at this point to go back to my car and get my full shovel!! But, since I hadn't been bothered by people and this was a new place that I "might" want to come back to another day. I didn't.
Still, this was too much! NOW, I was GOING to find out what the heck was going on! LOL
I dug again, down to 9 inches or so. Couldn't get the signal on the detector but if I used the nickel trick on my pointer, I did, just barely get a reading deeper yet. I dug a rather large rock out and it helped a little but not much. This ground was really, really mineralized! I pushed the pointer into the dirt a little deeper and thought I had a signal. I dug another clod of dirt and the signal went away. BUT! This time the signal was on the surface. Buried in the last clod pulled.
Isn't that incredible!!!!
I haven't really cleaned this one up much just yet. But, look at how high the relief
is on the lettering and date!
I think this will be a nice one if I can clean it up a bit.
But, ya know what? Even though this is an extremely nice and strange find. I don't
see it as the find of the day.
This one was:
Yep, my big gray metal blob.
At first I was just gonna toss it, but I didn't. Now I'm very glad I didn't.
When I got it home and cleaned it up a bit, this is what I saw:
How about them apples!?
It EVEN came with an identifying mark!
Don't go running for a mirror, I've already done the work:
Also, here is a link to more information if so desired.

Thanks for taking the time to read this far. I know it was a bit wordy today.
I felt like the hunt was a failure for a while, but after I reviewed everything, I was smiling!
