Today Cru'Dad & I help another Archie group in the local area do their spoil heap. It only took us 1 hour & I could see they had given it ago as well.
We were not expecting much as the soil was tall & steep, & the Archie had not reported any great findings. However we got;
Crotal Bell
Medieval Buckle Plate
Roman Weight
Bones & teeth
Pot Shards
Glass
Bronze Age Spear Tip.

They were on holiday and trusted us to do it alone, so Land-Mag will hand over the stuff next week.

The favour they did us at the other site was bring up plenty of deep out of reach finds in their back-filled trenches.:hello2:

Cru'dad had 2 solo hunts, a 2 hour hunt with a rare to find milled Charles II Halfgroat.
Plus a 3 hour hunt with 3 hammered!:headbang:

18th C Stock Neck Buckle (only our 2nd or 3rd of these)
2 Leather Mounts
Jetton
Scrappy
Hammereds - Lizzy Halfgroat, Richard II Halfpenny, Charles I Penny

Great result for Cru'Dad!

All that is great. They missed all kind of things. What state is it?

It's nice you can work together with them. On this side of the great pond they more or less despise detectorists.

Excellent work Cru! I am also surprised how much they missed in their spoil heap and in the trench back fill. Perhaps they move overburden before they get to the area they want to actually focus, and theres some keepers in that top dirt. Another well done job.. oh and those hammered's make me drool :occasion14:

What were they (arc.)focusing on to miss so much?

That's pretty much what happens the diggers move all the top soil with the finds to one side. Then they jump in the trenches, dig the features & find only pottery & bones.

The archaeology, top soil that has been ploughed is not archaeology & the finds are out of context. We love out of context finds but they only have limited Archaeological value.

Crusader and Cru'dad - those are great Finds! Out of Context or not, I believe they have some value, archaeologically! That's data/info that needs to be added to the whole picture, of use of the site area.

That was a good kharma boomerang-the good deed that you did for them came right back to you

Yes,that is why we still GPS them & our years of data from the field will be added to their final report.

I would agree that some of those artifacts do have a value. That the difference between the archi.and treasure hunters. They miss valuable clues to other things.

That's cool, good to ear the two "worlds" are helping each other. WTG and congrats on the finds, always like what you get from the ground your side of the pond.

Oh man . These coins have me drool over. Nice

Interesting story Cru, and nice job on the finds.

Congratualtions on the very nice finds and working with the Archies.

The Charles II Halfgroat is a fantastic find, congratulations! :notworthy:
