It has been so hot, so many mosquitoes and copperheads that I have found myself wading the creeks by my house eyeballing finds as my MD isn't fully waterproof. Found this yesterday and know it isn't grape shot. It seems too heavy to be a spring

Its a coil spring not sure what its from but they make much heavier ones than that. Track adjusters on bulldozers use very heavy coils.
