Originally when I dug this up, I thought it was an old chain link for farm equipment or something. Found in an area where there was an old store, as well as CW activity. I was throwing it away but just thought it didn’t look right? There was a “hump” on one part. Almost like something would have been connected to it? On the other side of the “hump”, it’s kinda flatten in a spot? It’s making my head spin and I couldn’t throw it away for some reason so I cleaned it. It was pretty thick with crud. Any thoughts?

Back in the day your local blacksmith would make you anything you needed. This piece was likely made for a specific purpose, the reality is that you'll likely never know what that 'purpose' was. :dontknow:

That would make sense. I’ll have to ask the man that told us about the store if he knows if there was a meat freezer there or if there were livestock or hay in the field before corn fields. His family has been in that area forever.

the item could very well be older than anyone still on this side of the turf.
as stated above it could be from lots of things and we will never know for sure.

Yea that’s why it caught my curiosity. Didn’t look like other chain links I’ve found. The man I know is in his late 60s. I’m not sure when the store was torn down or how long it had been up, but he’d be able to tell me for at least that time frame. I don’t know what all he remembers from his parents tell him about anything around there before his time, but I want to pick his brain lol He’s the same man that brought me his coin collection at work yesterday. I’m hoping he can tell me more about the area from before his time. But what you posted, looks to be what my piece could have been.
