Franklin, when Jefferson Davis was a US Senator, he advocated the annexation of Mexico's gulf coast to the US.
It was defeated, but supporters included Senators Benjamin, Yulee, and Slidell.
The idea of secession was formulated and prepared for well in advance of the event.

Edward Fitzgerald Beale(1822-1893) was a frontiersman who published his journals in 1850-"The Beale Papers",which are available from the LIBRARY of Congress.
The similarities between E F Beale's papers and Ward's pamphlet are hard to dismiss-here are just a few.
E F BEALE -1850 ----- ------- ----T J BEALE-1885 Ward's pamphlet
Started expedition in St Louis --- --- Left St Louis
Expedition had 30 men--- --- Expedition had 30 men
Went to Santa Fe --- --- Went to Santa Fe
Traveled in Colorado--- ---Found gold and silver in Colorado
Born in 1822 --- ---Letters to Morriss dated 1822,Ward born 1822
Published journal as "THE BEALE PAPERS"--- ---Ward pamphlet "THE BEALE PAPERS"
E F called "justley a lion" --- --- T J called "the Lion"
One journey listed as 1817 miles--- --- Started journey in 1817
Gold was NOT found by E F --- ---One of T J's men found the gold
Recieved $13,000 for an adventure--- --- Exchanged silver for $13,000 for transportation
Similar words and terms used in both "BEALE PAPERS"
EXACT LOCALITY
STAMPEDE
ABUNDANCE OF GAME
ACCESSION TO OUR NUMBERS
BUFFALOES
GRIZZLY BEARS
There are many others.
So the question arises-Happenstance,Coincidence,or Deliberate Plaglarism on the part of Ward to sell a concocted treasure story with one solved cipher solved, the other two unsolvable?
Or is the story a PERSHER CODE relating to a KGC treasure vault?

why?

Why? That is but one source utilized to create the Beale story.
All the others are discussed on this thread, as well as alternate Beale treasure theories.

No it was Jefferson Davis when he was Secretary of War of the United States. He also was the man that added rifle bores to cannon so they could shoot further and more accuracy of hitting their target. And he built most the arsenals in the south and had them armed better before the Civil War.
"The Southern rebellion was largely the outgrowth of the Mexican War"- Ulysses S Grant

"The Southern rebellion was largely the outgrowth of the Mexican War"- Ulysses S Grant

Not true. It was the Union calling up troops to invade the South.

franklin:

Your chronology is off. Southern states claimed to secede before the troops were called up.

The "trigger event" for the Civil War was firing on the vessel trying to resupply Fort Sumter.

Good luck to all,

The Old Bookaroo

...and with that, let us return to Ward and what sources influenced the creation of the Beale Papers.

I suspect that the "extra" JOB PRINTS & ORIGINAL PAPERS (story ideas) were destroyed by fire in Winter of 1885 or 1886... DANG COLD! Gotta heat up the place with paper/wood stoves! So! Dunno...

Robert & Sarah MORRISS was a BIG part of the JOB PRINT... PROBABLY "influenced" by Mrs. Margaret Cabell's "Sketches" book... REAL source...? Robert MORRIS, ex-mayor of Lynchburg, Va. in 1813; I can not find that he was married with children. The ONLY "Sarah" that I can find is Sarah Harrison, wife of Samuel Harrison... who built, owned & managed FRANKLIN HOTEL in 1817 or so. Robert MORRIS may have had Washington HOUSE or INN (his private HOUSE/HOME), with rooms to "let" (rent). As an Inn, Robert MORRIS would have "entertained" MANY famous ppl as indicated in the JOB PRINT

Did "Mayor" Robert MORRIS die in 1863...? Dunno, looking into it, now...

...and the descendants of those "entertained" that were mentioned in the job pamphlet objected to their names being used in the dime novel.

Why hasn't anyone in the 130 years after the Beale Papers publication been able to produce evidence that would confirm any of the events as actually ever happening?
WHY?

why do you need that?

Captain Jack, even you must realize that is the Beale story is a work of fiction drawn from a mélange of sources, that makes the ciphers fictional, and therefore, the alluded treasure of gold, silver, and jewels in a treasure vault , fictional.

Yes. His wife died in 1861. Robert Morris' brother in law was the first Mayor of Lynchburg, Va. 1804 or 1805. Robert Morris was Mayor 1813.

...and, as with the name "Thomas J Beale", was used as a character name in a work of fiction.

I have not found mention of his name in Lynchburg, Va. or anywhere else in Virginia. I have not been able to verify anywhere in over 50 years of researching whether the Beale Expedition ever happened. I am searching into documents and letters of locals still nothing. You may very well be right?
