Went out to check out a site I saw this spring. It's about 1 3/4 mile walk. Unfortunately, it's been hit many, many times. I saw holes ranging from a couple of months to a few years. I commend the people that go out there. The road this is off has a gate at both ends so atvs can't get past it. So they're either walking or mountain biking. I spent 2 hours and did manage a few things. I found a lamp burner but it's something I've never seen before. It's made of pewter, not copper and it screws on to something. Any ideas on that would be helpful. I got a older style tack buckle, a stem and a bowl from a pewter spoon. They don't match, the stem is engraved with a maker-yale&henshaw - which puts it 1835-37. And 4 buttons. One tiny flat button , 2 buttons with a nice floral design and War of 1812 Artillery button. I really wanted something from that war so I guess it would be a bucket Lister. After using soap and water with a soft bristle brush ,all the gold came out. I guess it wasn't a wasted 4 mile trip after all!! Nice finds , you did well . I guess it's not hunted out just yet.

Awesome finds, congrats! :occasion14:

Very cool finds

Nice finds for a pounded site! It's always encouraging to see people post their finds from hunted out sites.

I'd say you made some pretty decent finds considering the site has been hit often before, congratulations.

That wick adjuster screws into the glass, sometimes metal, main body or oil reservoir of the lamp. I know nothing about buttons as I'm not a relic hunter but the one with the cannon and cannon balls may be an artillery uniform button from the revolutionary war period. I know I've seen it posted before. Hopefully one of the knowledgeable button guys will chime in.

WOW!!! The "patina" on that Corp button is "stunning" !!!!
Congrat's!

Nice finds. The CORPS button is a good save. I got the same one last year also with the majority of gilt left. What I really like are the flower buttons!

Nice save on the button! I use a mountain bike all the time for detecting. I get a little warm up exercise before I start sifting/detecting.

Those flower buttons we're about 5 inches away in the same spot between trees roots. I almost wonder if they were on a shirt that they wore together with the uniform.

What’s your restoration technique? They look great, although condition of buttons clearly damn good as starting point. Nice findsz

Honestly, all I did was with the corps button is scrubbed it with a black bristle brush and dish soap. Then I put Ren wax on it and it became bright gold.
