War nickels.....do you add them to your silver count?

Now I'm just putting this out for an example of silver content items. :In the UK any item (not coin) that has 10% silver content and is over 300yrs has to be reported.
War nickels are of 33% and less then 1/3 of the required yrs, but are over 3 times the amount in silver content.
So I would add them, because they're cool, and are of silver bearing metal. :)

Yes.

And fwiw, Silver Plate = No.

Yes. I count silver nickels in my silver coin counts. When tallying "# of silver" for record sakes (or posts or duels, etc...). Although only 35% silver , yet they contain almost as much (just a bit less) silver content than silver dimes do. Because of being a larger coin.

Absolutely they have silver content therefore qualify as the collectible nickel........

Ok, was thinking about doing a 2017 finds thread and didn't want bashed, lol.

I dont consider them in my silver tallies, nor do I store them with my hoard of silvers.

I count them....but I make them stay in another box to keep the clad from from cross mojulating with my 90%ers giving me an uncalculatable mess!

I definitely count them. Any coin that has 1.75 grams of silver is a silver coin in my book. They have almost as much silver as a Canadian dime and those count, so why wouldn't a war nickel?

35% silver, and yes they go in coin flips and in my coin collection binder.

I don't collect under anyone else's guidelines. I do it for me, and how I want to do it.

Seems there are a few different opinions out there so I'm glad I asked.

Been detecting and collecting for a long time.
Wartime silver nickels are unique and aren't found that often. Because of their 35 % Silver content I count them seperately from other nickels.

Many of us count them as silver. It's your coin, your finds, and your goals. Do as you wish, and to heck with the Nay-Sayers.
