I found this sight while searching for reviews of the Harbor Freight metal detector which I purchased.
I live in Ohio and my street is actually part of the original Ohio Canal which was filled in.
I own property on 2 streets which were the original shops that backed the canal.
I also rehab houses for a retirement gig and have come to find some interesting things in the yards along the canal.
At the end of my street, which is my house and the fire department is the old mooring sight and turn around which was never filled in. You can see some of the old mooring blocks and steel something or others.
As I have learned more about the area I decided to metal detect the lots and mooring area, I have not done any yet because of weather but will do some this week coming up. The "old" lady a block over grew up in the house she currently lives in and remembers playing along the canal, she has been a wealth of historical information.
According to the locals the shops burned down in the early 1900's and that's when some of the houses popped up. The fire department was on the east side, the fir e was on the west side and the wooden bridge over the canal burned in the process so the FD could not get to the fire.
I also scuba dive and have done quite a bit of metal detecting underwater, my underwater detectors handle is only about a foot long so it is useless on land hence the purchase of a cheap one to see how it goes.
And I see Oak Island threads, LOL, I have found more treasure digging in the yard than they have found in all their seasons.
