WALL OF GOLD-- I KNOW WHERE--BUT HOW??

Got some real great advice from you guys but, I think I'll still chew on this one for awhile. Its been there for that long, it can wait for me to formulate my next step. Right now I'm workin a lead of a 1910 fire insurance map that would show the exact house. So I'm gonna just sit back with eyes and ears wide-open and wait... the advice I got here will be in my back pocket.I'll post any new developments as they happen. Thanks You Everybody----resurector

Don't pull any Jimmy Rockford stunts to get access to what might be there. Think about how you would feel if you found a valuable cache, and someone pulled a scam on you--even a minor one, to get what you had.

If your still interested in this cache then get a writen and legal search and salvor agreement. That way they cant take all the treasure.

Oh man, the heck with all that. Just scope out the house, wait till they leave and take a 4" core drill to the outside of the building under each window ledge!
Easy, simple and you can be gone in a flash if you don't find anything. ;D

This is a good use for an articulating borescope like I have. it requires only a 1/4" hole and will give you access to any area behind the wall you need to see. a 1/4" hole is also very easy to clean back up. It has a light source as well. You could suggest that you were checking the foundation for damage etc throught he walls. (or come up with another valid reason) As a similar free service and they could sit and watch you and have no idea what you were seeing. Wouldn't have to ask them to leave or otherwise. They should have no fear then. You can pickup borescopes on ebay etc. Obviously if you found what you were looking for, you could wait for them to leave and rent or buy the place. Offering to fix some imaginary damage would likely be a bad idea.

My advice, a rag and bottle of chloroform do wonders :o :o No i think that you should follow your lead and once your absolutly positive, try renting the house. If its been there this long and there are elderly in the house, chances are they arent tearing up the floorboards anytime soon, so just sit on it, as sad as that sounds. The splitting idea wont work, people are naturally greedy, and I agree that if they saw 300 gold coins fall out on their floor your in some trouble.

You been at this for 3 months now......whats the hold up............you have been given sevaral ideas.......
.....do something and lets us know what happens!!! We wanta see them coins.......GO FOR IT!!!! ;D

This really is an interesting story. First, i would hesitate to invest the money in renting or purchasing a house unless you were pretty certain that the coins are still within the walls. For all you know somebody else could have already taken the coins, or worse yet, embelished a good tale. Right now it may help for you to examine the exterior of the house for signs of any exterior remodelling. Also consider whether the coins will be out of range for your detector: even 18 pounds of gold will be difficult to detect if they have slipped several feet down and are surrounded by bricks and the concrete foundation. As for approaching the owners? People who approach elders with too good to be true stories (even if this one really *is* true!) are often pegged as scam artists, so great care will be needed if you decide to approach them with a 50-50 contract. I'm still not sure how to approach them with this story without letting the cat out of the bag and having them reap the benefits of your work. I still think honesty is still the best way to approach things... dressing up as a termite inspector might land you in jail! Anyways, good luck with your endevours and please keep us posted. I'd love to hear a success story!

Resurector, I am not sure if someone already posted what I am about to say because well I am just to lazy to read all the replies.
Anyhow I assume you know this mans name right? Do a search on who his mother was and get her name once you have that go to you local library or town hall and look up where she lived. this way you won't have to guess which house it is.

Hate to sound like a party pooper, but when a story sounds like something one would tell around a campfire it raises many red flags.

The basic question is this, was the son aware that the mother was disposing the coins into the walls of her house with the thought that they were never to be retrieved by the mother?

If so, why in the world would a guy who breaks the law to acquire these coins, turn around and religously offer a coin a week over a 15 year period just to allow his mother to dispose of them into the walls of her house? If his intent was to take care of his mother, being the prudent guy that I am, I would probably figure out that after the second or third coin; that it would be better to set up a bank account in which she could actually use the money for living essentials. Better yet, just buy her things that she needed and present them as gifts.

Second, we know the son was still alive when the mother died. You mentioned the son moving his cronies into the house. Once again, if he was aware of all the coins, don't you think minimally he would have mentioned this fact to his cronies in which they would have torn down the walls and retrieved the gold for themselves.

Third, if this was money of the devil, why would the god fearing mother turn around and offer it to her friend (neighbor) in a note? Devils money is devils money regardless of who possesses it.

Just a few thoughts.....
