You might get lucky and have a loose ribbon cable to the screen, but I'm afraid the lcd may be shot.

I'll check the ribbon ... It did it the other day then went away and now came back ... Thank you

I checked the plug for the ribbon in the screen and in the main box and still the same so hopefully I get the summer out of it and then I'll ship it out

If there is no physical damage whites will most probably fix it for free even if its out of warranty.

Just used the metal detector today and the display is back to normal so I don't know what the problem is

im sorry to say most whites electrical engineers (assuming they are knowledgable in electrical engineering) will instatnly void your warranty because they will realize (lacking any visible damage) that the display was adversly affected by a magnet (in my opinion neodynium)....perhaps you set the detector down close to a magnet or one stuck on to the to the metal connectors/pins/wire behind the CRT screen resulting in a magnetic vitiation of the electrons within the CRT, it was most likely on when the magnet made contact otherwise it would have been fine...to address the person who said it was the electrical wiring, while yes it would creat a similar affect, it wouldnt have that inverse V shape.. if it was the wiring it would instead go from one end to the other in a perfectly straight line....sorry buddy...and im glad to see that it got back to normal, with time CRT, unlike LCD electrons tend to renumerate their origninal semblence if the influence ceases to be embossed
