How big is it?
Does it look like copper?
Anyone read music?
I wonder if it's a recognizable tune...

Neat find, congrats :)

This is an absolute guess but maybe its from a drummers belt from the civil war?

Looks like a 1960's lady's belt buckle, with a Muse on it. I say 1960's because that was a time women started wearing leather belts, prior to that I don't think women did. The prongs on it look like they would hook into holes in a leather belt. But what do I know? I'm senile. ;)

It wouldn't necessarily have to be for a leather belt. It could've been a ladies' sash buckle--in which case it could date from earlier. On an interesting note, the music on the top of the buckle has a mistake in it--the note stems are on the wrong side of the note heads. So it's obvious that the buckle was not meant for a musician to wear, but rather just as a decorative (and incorrectly designed) piece. Sorry--I'm a musician, and I still see sappy inspirational posters with the note stems drawn on wrong. It drives me nuts... :P

I'm googled out ???
there are many variations on this belt buckle theme, but I can't find (yet) anything close.

Number two son, musically wise, couldn't see any 'music' in the decoration.

I think it's a beauty. :)

I'm sorry, but there is musical notation there. I hold a Bachlor's and Two Master's Degrees in it. I also teach music at two Universities. You'll see the clefs and staves on the left and right side of the piece in Montana Jim's orientation of it. 8)

Buckles My Friend - I'm thinking he meant there was no real "music" meaning the notes were a random artisitic portrayal only...

I think we all see the "music stuff" :)

I don't care if it's old or new...I like it.

Please don't remove that awesome green patina! I hate it when people do that.

Ahhhhh! Sometimes I CAN be a little dense. Yes. You are correct. The music is not a real "piece" but rather just decoration.

MJ, excellent observation! It's amazing how much we can see when a change in perspective takes place - like from just rotating the image 90 degrees. ;)
;D And what were you thinking? :D ;)

Her attire could be from almost any period, but his has me puzzled. Looks almost like Christopher Columbus' time period. But I don't associate the 1400s with dancing!
