Vintage "H" mark rim fire 38 cal? bullet casing

I believe it's a Winchester cartridge, and the H would stand for New Haven. I could be wrong though.
 

Don't think that's a .38 casing. Too small, and pretty unlikely a caliber in a modern rimfire.
 

I would say Henry's .36 cal Civil War period, just a guess.
 

If I remember right, a Henry rifle has dual firing pins and leaves 2 marks on the case. Henry's and Winchester M66's were both .44 rimfire. The "H" on the Winchester .44 ammo was left there to honor Tyler Henry, inventor of the Henry rifle. Gary
 

Thank you folks for the info. We live in northern California. We find obsidian arrow heads every once in a while. To find this is kind of neat.
 

older post civil war -- the 1870 - 1880 " rimfire" era modern smokeless powder rifles were often in smaller pistol type calibers --so that you only needed 1 ammo for both pistol and rifle ---32 -20 (32 cal bullet --20 grains of powder) and 38 /40 were common rounds
