In the picture it looks as if the bottom of this piece was "riveted" to something. Could it be the old remains of leather?
Do some finials have numbers on them?
I don't think it was riveted. It has a small cast seam running across the bottom. There are no remains of leather.

Guessing the number "7" is there for a purpose rather than purely decorative. Guessing that size or weight is significant in ID-ing this object. Could the "7" actually be the letter "L"?
Looks like a 7 to me.

Ok you guys...he said it was 1 inch tall...and likened it to a game piece.....now unless we are talking elf ashes or trailer hitch for a elf wagon...I dont think we have it yet.....
HMMM.
They wouldnt use a trailer size piece for a hip replacement the bones arrent that big esspecialy in animal.
but i think the ball joint or snap may be it.

I think I may just have the answer for you!!

On truck caps and other such contraptions where those lift gate pistons are used, they fit over a small ball stud that looks exactly like that. Maybe it broke off of a contraption like that.

Good luck!
